Commitment

  • Directors, Treasurer and Secretary shall serve a minimum term of 2 years from the date of their election. Directors may renew their terms every 2 years, or until their successors are elected or appointed.      

  • Board directors should be engaged and passionate about the organization mission. They should be ready to actively participate in the advancement of the organization (on average 5 to 10 hours/month).

  • Participation in monthly virtual Teams meeting with the occasional in-person meeting (2-3 times/year).

Vision Statement

CTDS envisions improved quality of life in our communities through dog therapy.

Mission Statement

CTDS adds value to people’s lives and enhances the well-being of our clients using positive interactions with our therapy dogs. We do this via our core programs delivered with communication.

Service – We are oriented to helping others and improving lives.

Connection – We aim to foster strong relationships within CTDS, with external partners, and the broader community.

Compassion – We want to come alongside people to offer support, strength, and companionship that helps them face whatever is in front of them.

Commitment – We are dedicated to the well-being of our therapy dogs, volunteers and clients.

Volunteerism – CTDS is volunteer-led and driven, embracing diversity of the communities we serve.

03  Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight.

  • Ensure financial sustainability and fiduciary responsibility.

  • Support fundraising and resource development.

  • Advocate for the organization’s mission in the community.

  • Participate actively in board meetings and committees.

  • Oversee and work with the Operations Team

04  Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in the charitable and nonprofits sector.

  • Strong network and willingness to leverage connections.

  • Expertise in finance, legal, marketing, governance, secretariate.

  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Ability to dedicate time and resources to board duties.

05  Expectations

  • Attend 10 board meetings per year.

  • Serve on at least one committee.

  • Must attend at least one (1) CTDS event per year.

  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational evaluation.

Community Therapy Dog Society, located in Southern Alberta, acknowledges and pays tribute to the tradition territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations).
